- Determines occupancy based on guest room key card being inserted or removed
- Harvests kinetic energy from the card action – no batteries
- Installs easily in new or existing rooms – no wiring
- Transmits room occupancy statues wirelessly to other energy saving devices in the room
- Enables other devices to minimize energy use whenever the room is unoccupied
-
Energy Conservation: The core function is to reduce energy waste by ensuring that electrical loads (lights, air conditioning, etc.) are only active when the room is occupied.
-
Occupancy Detection: The switch acts as an occupancy sensor, detecting the presence or absence of a guest based on whether the key card is inserted or removed.
-
Wireless Control: It communicates wirelessly with compatible devices (like LevNet RF Receivers, ILLUMRA relays, etc.) to control these devices.
-
Self-Powered/Battery-Free Options: Some key card switches are self-powered, generating their own energy from the act of inserting or removing the key card, eliminating the need for batteries or wiring, according to DigiKey.
-
Integration with Systems: They can be integrated with various lighting control systems (like nLight) and HVAC controls.
- Convenience and Security: Besides energy savings, they offer convenience for guests (lights and devices turn on when they enter) and can be integrated with security systems.
- Installation Flexibility:Wireless technology allows for installation in locations where wiring is difficult or impossible, such as historical buildings or rooms with unique layout
